DESCRIPTION
In 2014, a record breaking 8.2 million passengers were recorded passing through the Edmonton International Airport. The City of Leduc required infrastructure to accommodate the increase in tourism . An underutilized, 1.15 ha parking lot, conveniently located across Queen Elizabeth II Highway from the airport, was designated as the next location for a premier hotel.
In spring 2015, Union Street Geotechnical Ltd. performed a geotechnical investigation for a proposed 150 unit, five storey, 1,663 square meter Wyndham Garden Hotel with 165 stall asphalt parking. The geotechnical investigation provided a description of soil type and condition as well as suitable foundation recommendations, providing the necessary information to finalize construction details.
Construction of the new hotel commenced summer 2015. Union Street provided concrete pile inspection, subgrade, subbase, and base materials testing as well as site required concrete testing.
Project is still under construction.
